The official name of the country is The Kingdom of Belgium. It is situated in the northwest Europe and at the cross-roads of Western Europe. It has such neighbors as the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France. Belgium includes three relatively autonomous regions: Flanders (northern part) is represented by the cities of Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges, the predominate language is Dutch; Wallonia (southern part) unites the cities of Liege, Narmu and Tournai as well as the famous Ardennes. The language which is used in this part of the country is French. The third distinguished area of Belgium is Brussels, which is officially bilingual.
The terrain of the country changes according to the peculiarities of the territory. In the northwest there are flat coastal plains, the southeastern and central parts are characterized by mountains of Ardennes, the highest of which is Signal de Botrange.
The climate of Belgium is rather moderate. The summer months usually extend from May to September, they are cool, sometimes rainy and humid. But be ready that rainfall in Belgium can last all through the year. In winter the country experiences frequent snowfalls, the average temperature is around 4°centigrade.
